Gujranwala, January 7, 2025 — In a tragic incident, a Christian woman, Shabana Bibi, was killed and her teenage daughter, Misbah, critically injured in a targeted shooting in Gujranwala. The attack occurred on the evening of January 6, as the two were returning home from their workplace in Jalil Town, Gujranwala on a motorbike driven by their nephew, Danish.
According to the First
Investigation Report (FIR), the incident took place around 8:30 PM near the Magnolia Park Bridge. Two unidentified
assailants on a motorbike approached and opened fire on the family without
provocation. Shabana sustained fatal injuries and succumbed at the scene, while
her daughter Misbah was shot in the back. Misbah was rushed to the Civil
Hospital Gujranwala, where she remains in critical condition. Shabana’s body
was also transported to the hospital for an autopsy via a 1122 ambulance.
Karamat Masih, Shabana’s grieving
husband, filed the FIR at Saddar Police Station, stating that his wife and
daughter worked as domestic helpers in Jalil Town to support the family.
Karamat, a labourer, expressed his devastation over the brutal attack and
demanded swift justice.
The FIR has been registered under
Sections 302 (punishment for murder), 324 (attempt to murder), and 34 (acts
done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Pakistan
Penal Code.
Police officials have initiated an
investigation to identify and apprehend the attackers. The motive behind the
shooting remains unclear, but law enforcement agencies are considering various
angles, including potential targeted violence against the family.
The tragic incident has sent
shockwaves through the Christian community and raised concerns about the safety
of minority groups in Pakistan. Community leaders and human rights
organizations have condemned the attack and urged the authorities to bring the
perpetrators to justice promptly.
