Pakistan's President and Prime Minister Highlight Labour Day: Committed to Workers' Welfare and Rights Amidst Economic and Climate Challenges


Today, as the nation observes International Labour Day, the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan addressed the nation, underscoring the importance of workers in shaping the country’s socio-economic landscape. In their messages, both leaders paid tribute to the tireless efforts of the working class, highlighting their significant contributions to the nation's progress and prosperity.

Acknowledging the Workforce's Role:
The President emphasized the pivotal role of workers in various sectors of the economy, from agriculture to industry, and from formal to informal sectors. "The workers of Pakistan," he stated, "have played a commendable role in driving the country's progress, contributing to every sector of the economy." He acknowledged their sacrifices and perseverance in the face of challenges such as inflation, unemployment, and the adverse impacts of climate change.

The Prime Minister echoed this sentiment, acknowledging the labourers’ contributions to the country's development. He emphasized the need to protect the rights of workers, particularly those in hazardous jobs and informal sectors, including domestic workers and agricultural labourers.

Commitment to Workers' Welfare:
Both leaders reiterated their commitment to improving the welfare of Pakistan's working class. The President called for policies to ensure fair wages, safe working conditions, and social protections for labourers, urging both federal and provincial governments to play an active role in safeguarding workers' rights.

The Prime Minister emphasized the government's focus on labour-friendly policies, stating, "We remain steadfast in our commitment to bolstering labour welfare and harmonizing domestic labour legislation with global standards." He announced the upcoming National Tripartite Labour Conference, which will focus on occupational safety and health (OSH) across various sectors, including the mining industry.

Recognizing the challenges faced by workers, particularly amidst rising inflation and unemployment, both leaders spoke of measures to support the working class. The Prime Minister outlined targeted subsidies and support programs aimed at alleviating the financial burdens on the labour class.
